Eligibility
The Middle School Research Club is restricted to students who have completed the Stem Cell Research Program. The club is suited to science enthusiasts with curious minds who are passionate about research. Students are required to arrange their own transportation to and from the LA Biotech Center.

Description
The middle school research club enables graduates of the Stem Cell Research Program to continue their summer research throughout the school year.
Picking up where they left off in the summer, participants investigate how muscle stem cells repair and regenerate damaged tissue through authentic scientific inquiry and hands-on experiments.
The weekly club provides a structured environment where students work in small teams mentored by professional scientists.
If your child enjoyed the Stem Cell Research Program, the middle school research club is a wonderful way for them to deepen their skills, build confidence and stay engaged with science all year long.
Curriculum
The Middle School Research Club Program provides:
– Ongoing research experience in: (1) research study design (2) hypothesis formulation (3) experimental planning (4) reagent and assay optimization (5) experimental implementation (6) advanced laboratory techniques (7) data acquisition (8) data processing and analysis (9) data interpretation (10) troubleshooting and rigorous thinking (11) poster preparation (12) research presentation and science communication.
– Theoretical discussions that build science literacy and provide a conceptual overview of the hands-on activities and research process.
– Preparation for diverse learning environments through a multidisciplinary activities that combines science, math, writing, IT (Microsoft office software) and public speaking.
– Exposure to biotechnology, scientific research, and real-world science.
– Applicable skills and knowledge for future STEM programs such as high school biology and science fair research.
