Our Origins
Our Journey
The LA Biotech Center (then Pathways to Stem Cell Science or Pathways) began humbly in a small 450 sq ft laboratory in the Monrovia based incubator Lab Launch.
The initial focus was on reestablishing services previously offered by the USC Stem Cell Core, including professional training, CIRM funded education initiatives, college and high school programs, and research support.
By 2019, the demand for rigorous hands-on education had soared with parents and educators eager for Pathways to offer a full pipe-line of K-12 courses.
The organization outgrew its initial laboratory and established of a custom-built 4,000 sq ft headquarters in Torrance, California.
This facility, which opened in March 2020, enabled a new chapter, marked by the launch of middle school programming and shared laboratory space for biotech companies.
Reflecting its new broader focus on biotechnology, Pathways to Stem Cell Science rebranded to the LA Biotech Center in 2024.
We continue to build upon the foundations laid by the Stem Cell Core facility, offering programs originally developed at USC in addition to new initiatives that are only possible in the private sector.
Now serving students, scientists and institutions from around the globe we support innovative research, provide key infrastructure to the biotech community and create lab-based education programs that are not found anywhere else in the world today.
